BASINGSTOKE splash pad will reopen on Saturday, June 17, and a new toilet has been installed for people to use.

As previously reported, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council announced that the splash pad, at Chineham Park, in Popley, would reopen on Friday, April 28 after being shut for the winter.

But less than three weeks later the council announced that it had to close the facility for ‘essential maintenance’, just as the weather started to warm up.

Now, the authority has announced that the splash pad will reopen on Saturday, June 17.

A new toilet has now also been installed at the site for people to use while at the water play facility.

A post on the council's Facebook said: "Since the splash pad’s closure following unsatisfactory water quality tests, the council has carried out rigorous cleaning and testing at the site.

"We understand the closure was frustrating for families, particularly during this period of warm weather, but the welfare of the children using the water play facility has been our top priority.

"We would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding during this time. In addition to the deep cleaning and testing, we are continuing our daily cleaning procedures and are exploring longer-term options to try to prevent closures happening in the future.

"If you are planning to visit over the summer, help us to keep the area clean and tidy for everyone to enjoy by using the bins or taking your rubbish home with you. Please also be considerate of people living near the splash pad when parking."
