BASINGSTOKE Town Football Club are set to hold men's first-team trials ahead of the forthcoming season.

In a post on Twitter, the club announced: "With overwhelming interest in the requests for trials - we've made the decision to hold a trial for our men's first team."

The announcement comes after Dan Brownlie's men defeated AFC Bournemouth 1-0 at Fratton Park, to win the Hampshire Senior Cup and complete the treble for the first time in the club's history.

On their website, the club released a statement saying: "After a remarkable season for our men’s first team it’s fair to say that there has been great interest in our club, especially with candidates looking to play for the side and requesting trial opportunities."

"For that reason, we have decided to hold a trial evening towards the end of June."

Manager Dan Brownlie said in a statement on the club's official website: "We’re always looking to improve the side. I’ve not conducted a trial before, but due to the overwhelming interest – it felt sensible. I know the club has previously benefitted from running them, so hopefully we can come across some gems."
