TRAINS to London are set to be affected this Sunday, meaning those who wish to travel for the London Marathon will have to rethink their plans.

The annual race will be the 43rd running and it is the first time since 2019 that the event is being held in spring, but commuters from Basingstoke won't be able to get there by train.

South Western Railway announced on Twitter that "planned engineering works are taking place" on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23.

South Western Railway has listed on its website that bus and coach replacement services are likely to replace the usual rail service from Basingstoke to London Waterloo and London Paddington throughout the entire day on Sunday, April 23.

Those who wish to use the train service this weekend to Reading or London may be inclined to rethink their journey and plan ahead for any disruption this might cause.

The bus replacement service is listed on South Western Railway's website to run from 6.23 am on Sunday, April 23 to 0.10am on Monday, April 24.

More information about rail replacement buses and engineering works can be found here.

Normal service is set to resume from 05.48am on Monday, April 24.

Readers can check the train timetables and book tickets on South Western Railway's website.
