ALDERSHOT Town FC will be fielding their academy team against Basingstoke Town in the Hampshire Cup semi-final after their attempts to rearrange the fixture were in vain.

The game will be played in Winklebury on Tuesday night, April 18.

Aldershot tried to rearrange the fixture as it clashes with their Vanarama National League rearranged fixture with Wealdstone.

However, they have been informed by the competition sub-group that the semifinal must be played on Tuesday, April 18.

Hence Aldershot, who are trying to avoid relegation in the league, decided to field their U21 squad against the high-flying Basingstoke side.

In a statement, Aldershot FC said: "The club wanted to move the fixture to give our supporters an opportunity to attend both our league fixture with Wealdstone and Cup fixture with Basingstoke but regret that unfortunately a choice between the two will have to be made.

"Our under 21 side have, of course, helped us to reach this stage of the competition with a penalty shootout win over Baffins Milton Rovers in the Quarter-final and with a number of Academy players racking up senior appearances throughout this year’s competition.

"We’re incredibly proud of their achievements so far in this year’s Hampshire Senior Cup and will be supporting the youngsters from Wealdstone."

Meanwhile, Basingstoke will also have their sights set on the league fixture on Saturday, April 22, when they meet South Park in the last league game of the season.

Second-placed Basingstoke can only hope that favourites Walton & Hersham drop points in their last game against Thatcham Town, in order to be crowned champions.

Walton's goal difference is 11 more than Basingstoke Town.
