MORE artists are being sought to brighten up Basingstoke's streets and create new outdoor artwork.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council are giving local artists the opportunity to work alongside ward councillors to deliver outdoor artworks on existing street furniture or walls within the town centre.

From March, when the project first started, it has aimed to add colour throughout the streets. This new phase of the Streets Alive creative project will be funded by the council as part of the Queen’s Jubilee borough-wide celebrations.

Council leader Cllr Simon Bound said: “This project aims to get people in the towns and villages of Basingstoke and Deane to take a few minutes out of their day to stop and appreciate fantastic pieces of art on benches, planters and other locations in their communities. The new artwork will continue to celebrate the very best of our borough.

“As shown by the Streets Alive project in the town centre, we are extremely lucky to have many talented artists nearby and I am looking forward to working with more of them on this project. This will showcase their talents and help put the borough even more firmly on the street arts map.”
