Hartley Wintney and Hayes and Yeading United played out a goalless draw to share the points in Southern Premier League in a match dominated throughout by defences who made few errors.

H&Y had a good chance to take the lead on two minutes. A long ball saw the pace of Florian Envoudou Ada get beyond the Hartley defence.

However, the striker shot wide when well placed. The visitors gained an edge and had an effort on eight minutes from former Row favourite Paul Hodges whose parting shot from a tight angle was deflected wide by Row keeper Adam Desbois.

H&Y continued to have an edge and on 19 minutes were almost gifted a goal with a rare unforced defensive error by the Hartley defence.

This led to a scramble in the Row goalmouth before the ball was cleared.  Hartley came into the game but Jacob Adams in the visitors’ goal was not called upon to make a save.

The main Row threat came from a couple of good right-wing breaks from Tom Leggett who saw his accurate crosses elude the Hartley forwards.

Hayes had an effort on 37 minutes from Moses Emmanuel who was set up by Hodges. The striker’s parting shot was deflected wide.

The second half saw Hartley with more of the play but rarely threatening the Hayes goal. On 70 minutes Harry Cooksley found space in the visitors’ area and his shot to the near post went narrowly wide.

Three minutes later Hartley had a real scare. Ayo Faniyan created space for a shot on the edge of the area. The effort took a huge deflection, and the ball went narrowly past the post with Desbois wrong footed.

Hayes pressed for the winner and the overlapping Joe Wilson saw his dangerous right crowing cross just about scrambled clear by the Row defence.

Two minutes later H&Y thought they had scored when Emmanuel showed good skill and finished with a powerful shot that looked net bound. However, Desbois had other ideas and dived full length to push the ball around the post.

Hartley had a chance on 90 minutes when Cooksley made good progress down the left and his cross just eluded the Row forwards. H&Y forced two corners in added time and came close when a Wilson shot from a tight angle was pushed away by Desbois.
