HE MAY not have won the £10,000 jackpot on a new singing competition, but Matt Vaughan did win over his harshest critic, his son.

Matt appeared on the new ITV show Change Your Tune which aired on Sunday, 22 April.

The show pits five tone deaf contestants against each other as audiences see them transformed into singing pros.

For Matt, who used to live in Hatch Warren, he wanted to improve on his “speak singing voice” so he could impress his 16-month-old son Caleb.

On the show Matt said that whenever he would sing his son would just frown at him, and all he wanted was “a round of applause from Caleb”.

Even though Matt only got a score of 62 out of 100 knocking him out at the first stage, he managed to impress Caleb.

He told The Gazette: “I was just singing one day, and he started applauding and I couldn’t believe it. I had to instantly grab a camera and document it.

“Now whenever I sing to him in the bath I no longer the frowned confused look, I get smiles and claps.”

Matt is known locally for being a DJ, as he held a residency at Basingstoke’s bowling centre for seven years in which he entertained children, would travel to London to undergo his vocal training for the show.

When asked what the hardest part of the training was he added: “Trying to learn when there is a pitch change.

“We had to slow things right down, so I could hear the note properly and then bring the tempo back up again.”

When Matt transformed from awful singer to polished performer in an instant he came out feel of enthusiasm and rhythm to his performance.

He added: “If I were to go back and do it all over again I would.

“I mean I’m not actively going to pursue things, but if someone offers me a huge show I’m not going to say no.”
