THE Asda store in Basingstoke has awarded a cheque of £200 to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation (HIWCF).

The money was raised through the Brighton Way store's local Community Champion scheme where customers in store were asked to vote for their preferred cause using green tokens they receive after their shop.

The cheque was presented in-store to councillor Dan Putty by Asda Basingstoke’s community champion Linda Butcher and this cash will be added to cllr Putty’s Basingstoke and Deane Community Fund, administered by HIWCF.

The Basingstoke and Deane Community Fund was set up in 2013 by cllr Putty while serving as mayor of Basingstoke, he is now representing Hatch Warren and sits on the board of trustees for HIWCF.

Cllr Putty said: “I would like to thank Asda and their customers for their support for the foundation.

“HIWCF’s focus is on building stronger communities and giving people the support they need to help themselves.  “The Basingstoke and Deane Community Fund has previously supported local causes such as Test Valley Men’s Sheds and Warren Youth Club based in Hatch Warren helping these groups to provide vital services for local people in need.

“We aim to continue this good work for years to come and we welcome the support of successful local businesses, it has been a pleasure working with Asda Basingstoke on this occasion.”
