PRAISE from a Basingstoke mum for a Morrisons check-out worker has gone viral.

Amanda Wilkins, was shopping at the Worting Road store, on Saturday, with her two daughters – who are both blind and have autism – when her daughter Holly became overwhelmed in the store.

However, a staff member who has been named as Lin, knew exactly how to help calm her down and allowed the young girl to scan through her mother's shopping.

Amanda shared the picture of her daughter and Lin at the check-out on Facebook and it has now been like by more than 432,000 people and shared by more than 72,000 people and has reached people in the United States of America, Spain and Australia.

In the Facebook post Amanda wrote: “I would like to say a massive thank you to the lady in the photo (sorry didn’t see her name) who helped me today at Morrisons in Basingstoke.

“I have two children that are both registered blind and are also autistic. As you can imagine shopping is not an easy thing for me to do, at the checkout both girls decided to go into meltdown and this very kind lady decided to help instead of judge.

“It doesn’t happen very often. She distracted my daughter by letting her scan all my shopping. A dream come true for Holly who loves playing ‘shops’.

“It melts my heart to come across people that are prepared to go the extra mile, and little acts of kindness makes a massive difference to my world.”

The picture showed Lin helping Holly scan two pints of milk at the checkout.

Basingstoke Gazette:

Since posting the image, strangers have sung the checkout workers praises and also told tales of their own encounters of people showing such kindness.

Hazel Briggs posted: “My back went into spasm in my local Morrison's a few years ago. So by the time I got to the checkout I was bent over. My lovely checkout lady got up gave me her chair and scanned and packed my shopping.”

While Samantha Elliott posted how she had been helped by Lin herself. She wrote: “Our daughter adores her, Lin has always made such a fuss over our little girl Bella and even let Bella sit in her fab car when we spotted her leaving work one day. Morrisons are very lucky to have a such a lovely lady working there.”

With many people calling for Lin to be rewarded by the store, including Ed Pitts who wrote: “Please Morrisons do something special for this woman - a holiday, a managerial raise, even employee of the month. This is the best of the internet today”

After seeing the post, Morrisons have rewarded Lin for her efforts and she was given a bouquet as well as a cheque to thank her.

Store manager Simon Nellis posted: “Reading to Lin why she was receiving flowers and a gift was really hard as I was getting genuinely choked up.”'
