CYCLISTS are being encouraged to give their views on a draft cycle strategy for the borough.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council originally commissioned Sustrans, a leading UK charity that aims to encourage people to travel by foot, bike or public transport for more of their journeys, earlier this year to create a ‘cycling strategy’ for Basingstoke.

After consulting with people that live, work and visit the borough on how cycling could be improved across Basingstoke and Deane, the borough council is now asking local cyclists and even people that’s don’t cycle to give their feedback.

Once finalised, the strategy, which aims to promote cycling for commuting and leisure, will include a cycle route map of the borough to help people find the best route for their journey and set out a number of actions to increase the number of people cycling.

The council’s Cabinet member for planning and infrastructure, Councillor Mark Ruffell, said: “We received great feedback when we last asked residents and visitors how cycling could be improved in the area.

“The draft strategy has been created to encourage cycling as a means to access employment, education, services or for leisure and we are keen to hear what everyone thinks, particularly around what our priorities should be, so please let us know.”
