A PRE-SCHOOL in North Waltham has lost its top Ofsted grading.

Cuckoo Meadow Preschool, based at the Rathbone Pavillion, was judged as "good" by the education watchdog following an inspection in June.

When it was last inspected in 2008, it was graded as "outstanding".

The latest report said: "The quality of teaching is strong. Staff set good examples for children and ask them questions to encourage discussion and extend thinking."

Inspectors said the preschool is not "outstanding" because "staff do not take all opportunities to promote children's independence" and because artwork displays "generally feature the work completed as part of adult-led activities."
