TWO teams of eager fundraisers went head-to-head and raised almost £7,000 in one day for a north Hampshire-based charity.

Employees from Symantec and LivePerson, both based in Reading, competed in a “store wars” competition taking over the Naomi House charity shops in Church Street, in Basingstoke town centre, and at Chineham Shopping Centre on July 10.

The two teams raised an impressive £6,949 on the day with the Symantec team pulling in £2,986 through sales and fundraising activity and employees from LivePerson raised a whopping £3,962.

The money will go to Naomi House and Jacksplace Hospice Caterpillar Appeal, which is raising £4million to refurbish the hospice, in Sutton Scotney.

Both teams got into the spirit of the event, with the team in Church Street basing their day around the theme of Wimbledon, which saw them handing out sweet treats in the form of strawberries.

The Chineham-based team held a rock and roll themed day, with one lucky shopper winning a £100 cash prize for guessing how many toy monkeys were in a classic sports car at the shop.

Tina Starbuck, corporate account fundraiser at Naomi House, said: “This was one of our best Store Wars challenges to date and the teams running our Basingstoke and Chineham shops managed to raise nearly £7,000 between them.

“This is a fantastic result and makes such a difference to the families who rely on our care. ”
