A NEW care home looks set to be built in Basingstoke after the borough council gave the green light for the scheme.

As previously reported by The Gazette, Choice Care Group applied to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council for permission to build an eight-bedroom care home and a new access to the site on land adjacent to Kings Lodge, in Worting Road, Basingstoke, in March.

Planning officers at the borough council, under delegated powers, approved the scheme last Monday.

The company is proposing to name the new home Oakley Lodge.

It will cater for adults with learning disabilities, mental disorders and complex emotional and behavioural needs.

Seven full-time employees and two part-time employees will work at the home.

When applying for planning permission, the care group said: “Choice actively encourages individuals to become self-reliant to make decisions for themselves and in many cases to ultimately move in to more independent living arrangements.

“Choice’s care homes provide a safe but stimulating environment for adults and young people aged 18 and over, where the individuals are supported to achieve positive outcomes in whatever way is most meaningful to them.”

Choice Care Group confirmed that they hope to have the new home open by summer 2016.
