BUSINESS students put their entrepreneurial skills to the test when they held fundraising events to raise money for charities.

As part of the events management unit of their course, two teams of students were tasked with raising money for a charity of their choice.

One team chose to raise funds for Crohn’s disease and held a five-a-side football tournament at the college.

Staff and students were invited to play and make a donation in order to take part.

A total of £51 was raised on the day, with a further £25 donation given from last year’s Young Enterprise profits.

Robert Bradley, who was part of the Crohn’s team, said: “We were proud to raise £51 in just three hours – everyone was really keen to take part and raise money for charity.”

The second team chose to support the charity Friends of the Elderly.

They held three separate events including two cake sales and a sponsored silence lasting four hours.

The team also managed to secure donations from local businesses including Shake-Away, Nandos and Vue Cinema and sold raffle tickets for prizes.

In total they raised £154.72, which Nikita DuPloy, one of the students involved said was “an amazing achievement”.
