A CHARITY quiz night helped to raise funds for a brain tumour charity.

The event, organised by Hays and held at the Hampshire Court Hotel, in Chineham, was part of the recruitment company’s two-year partnership with The Brain Tumour Charity.

More than £1,430 was raised on the night, through entry fees from those taking part.

Katy Walker, director at Hays in Basingstoke, said: “I was so proud to organise with my team such a worthwhile and well-received event for such an important cause.

“So many of our clients who came to the event were so pleased to see that we were supporting The Brain Tumour Charity, and were happy to help us raise funds for the charity.”

More than 70 people attended the event, organised by Hays consultants Anna Newman and Coleen Reilly, and the money will go towards funding a new centre of excellence, dedicated to carrying out world-class research.

More than 9,000 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour each year. The Brain Tumour Charity’s mission is to fund and promote research to improve understanding, diagnosis and treatment of brain tumours.

Louise Taylor, the charity’s director of fundraising, thanked the Hays staff and said: “Only two per cent of cancer research funding goes on brain tumours in the UK. Our goal is to significantly increase research investment to improve treatments and save lives.

“We rely 100 per cent on voluntary donations, and it’s only through the efforts of companies like Hays, and people like the team in Basingstoke, that we will be able to do this and bring hope to the thousands of people who are diagnosed with a brain tumour every year.”
