MORE than 100 new homes are set to be built near Basingstoke hospital after Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council agreed to sell off council-owned land.

Members of the borough council’s Cabinet gave the green light to plans to sell the land, known as the Aldermaston Road Triangle, off the A340.

An open marketing period for the land was carried out by the borough council at the start of April as well as targeted marketing towards housing developers with interested parties invited to bid for the land.

Five bidders went through a tendering process, and the borough council has opted to sell the land to the “most advantageous tender”.

The information has been classified as confidential so the borough council will not disclose how much money the authority is set to make from the scheme or which developer has won the bidding process.

But, in a report to the Cabinet, it was disclosed that the winning scheme is set to deliver a total of 103 new homes, including 75 one and two-bedroom homes and 28 flats. Forty per cent of the homes will be affordable.

Land needed to facilitate improvements to the Lodge junction on the A340 will not be included in the sale following the Government’s announcement of funding towards a part dualling project on the A340 between Tadley and Basingstoke.

Borough council leader Councillor Clive Sanders told the Cabinet meeting: “The one (bid) being recommended is the best one in terms of value for money and the mix of affordable and other housing which is in accordance with our current policies.”
