THE fourth Destination Basingstoke Phillips Half-Marathon proved a big success, with hundreds of runners completing the challenging 13.1-mile route.

Participants lined up at the start of the route by The Lamb pub, in Hackwood Road, and headed out through Cliddesden, Ellisfield and Farleigh Wallop before looping back to finish at War Memorial Park.

The race was started by breakfast DJ Steph, of The Breeze, who sent the runners on their way at 11am yesterday.

Crowds lined the route, offering runners water, jelly babies and shouts of encouragement to help them on their way.

Kenyan paralympian Jonah Chesum was first across the line.

He, and the hundreds who followed him, were greeted at the finish line by volunteers including young Brownies, who handed out bananas, medals, and silver foil blankets.
