A LARGE pile of straw and grass was set alight at Crabtree Plantation.
Firefighters from Basingstoke fire station were called to the scene twice last night at 7.30pm and again at 10.30pm after two fires were started.
The crew was alerted to the blaze by a driver on the A30 who saw the flames.
Crew manager Dave Allen said firefighters spent around two hours dampening down the fire on the second occasion.
The matter has now been referred to the police for investigation.
