YOUNGSTERS got an insight into the sport of orienteering at a taster event in Basingstoke.
More than 70 people turned up for the event at Popley Fields Community Centre, in Carpenters Down, Popley, which was organised by Basingstoke Andover District Orienteering club.
Those taking part were given a map and an electronic scanner to find their way to various points in the woodland behind the community hall.
They could also take part in a small maze challenge where the object was to go from point to point in the maze in the quickest time.
Serena Ludford, one of the organisers, said: “This was a come-and-try event for anybody to come along.
“It’s a sport that really is accessible to everybody, and it’s a good way of getting children to learn how to use a map.”
