THIS aerial photograph was taken over Basingstoke in 1930, and is part of English Heritage’s collection of 1million images.

Britain from Above presents the unique Aerofilms collection of images taken from 1919 to 1953.

This is just one of numerous photographs from the collection which were taken over areas of Basingstoke and Deane.

I'm guessing the main road is Kingsclere Road looking down the hill towards where the town centre is the other side of the railway.

I would say you have won first prize. To the left beyond the cemetery you can see Wallis & Stevens and beyond that the gas works which is where John Lewis propose to build.
I particularly like the ray of sunshine in the top right of the picture - the sun always shines on basingstoke.
