A GREAT-GRANDMOTHER celebrated her 100th birthday, surrounded by her friends and family.

Janet “Netta” Dickson reached the milestone last Thursday and celebrated with a small party at the Cherry Blossom Manor Care Home, in German Road, Bramley, where she lives.

Among the cards she received were ones from The Queen and Iain Duncan Smith, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions.

Her daughter Elspeth Anthony, of Wallis Road, Fairfields, Basingstoke, said: “It is lovely to have a small celebration to commemorate such a momentous occasion.

“The staff have helped with all of this and we appreciate all the help they have given us.”

Born in Glasgow, Mrs Dickson moved to Leeds with her husband, an engineer called John, in 1943.

She had three children – Elspeth, Gordon and John.

Three years after her husband died in 1996, she moved down to Basingstoke to be closer to her daughter, living at Hillstead Court, in Cliddesden Road. She moved to the Barchester-run care home in Bramley two years ago.

As well as her three children, she has seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one more is on the way.
