Thought for the Week with Andy Taylor
9:13am Thursday 3rd April 2014 in News
GOD gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint (Isaiah 40:29-31).
For about 25 years, I have been saying that “one day” I would climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Last summer, I had made my first bungee jump and my 36-year-old daughter, Pippa, was asking me what was next. I suddenly realised that at 62 years old, there may not be too many “one days” left. Rashly, at that moment, we decided to go for it together.
So, a few weeks back we set off on our Kilimanjaro adventure. It certainly was the most amazing adventure – and certainly no breeze.
Having to trust God for the most immediate necessities, at some moments each step; being able to share this experience with Pippa and see the qualities in this young woman that I would miss in everyday life; being able to raise almost £2,000 for a local charity – The Camrose Centre.
These things made the whole experience immensely worthwhile, and one for which I will be grateful for the rest of my life.
