LEGAL issues are putting the brakes on a 20mph scheme being implemented in Whitchurch.

Whitchurch was chosen to pilot the 20mph project in 2012 – but the town is still waiting for the signs to go up.

At a full council meeting on February 3, councillors asked county councillor Tom Thacker, Conservative member for Whitchurch and Clere, why there was a delay.

He responded: “Unfortunately there are legal issues that have been raised in Fleet.”

He added: “It’s difficult for me as a county councillor to interfere with operational matters. I can enquire but I don’t think I can push it on any faster.”

Never got close to 20mph in Whitchurch thanks to inconsiderate and dangerous parking by its residents.
