ARTWORK created by pupils from the borough will feature in a 2014 calendar.
Pupils were invited to enter a competition to have their work featured in the Hampshire Interfaith Calendar, and the winners were rewarded at an event at Hampshire County Council, in Winchester, during Interfaith Week, from November 17 to 23.
A total of 30 children from Hampshire picked up prizes for their designs.
Zakaria Philip, a 13-year-old pupil from Bishop Challoner Catholic Secondary School, in South Ham, was the winner for the month of February, and eight-year-old Amy Laishley, from The Priory Primary School, had her artwork selected to feature in June.
Pupils were encouraged to produce artwork to represent a religious event, in any calendar month of the year.
Each winning design relates to one of over 100 religious festivals featured in the calendar from the nine faith groups represented, including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism.
The network’s aim is to promote interfaith harmony and understanding for the benefit of people in Hampshire, by encouraging and promoting respect, communication and the knowledge of different faiths across the county.
The calendar was launched on November 20 at the seventh annual Hampshire Interfaith Lecture.
Councillor Andrew Joy, co-chairman of the Hampshire Interfaith Network and Hampshire County Council executive member for communities and partnerships, said: “I would like to congratulate all the young artists who submitted their designs for this year’s calendar competition. Once again their entries were of outstanding quality.”
