Basingstoke mums get well-deserved treat

Basingstoke Gazette: The mums enjoying their treat. The mums enjoying their treat.

MOTHERS who look after children with life-limiting illnesses have enjoyed a special weekend treat.

Eighteen mums enjoyed the treat laid on at The Bluebells, in North Waltham – a home run by Sebastian’s Action Trust for seriously-ill children and their families.

The women were treated to a wine tasting session at Wickham Vineyard followed by afternoon tea. Dinner was served back at The Bluebells – and was followed by a burlesque dancing lesson.

The evening finished with the mums playing Dance Off on the Xbox and a few games of Twister. In the morning, the group took a trip to a nearby pub for breakfast before returning to The Bluebells for a relaxing Sunday afternoon.

As a parting gift, the mums were given a bag of treats including goodies from Hotel Chocolat.

Angela McCarthy, mother to Martha, said: “I was apprehensive about attending the weekend as I did not know any of the other mums, but it was enlightening and extremely enjoyable to spend some time with others in a similar situation.”

Jane Gates, chief executive of Sebastian’s Action Trust, added: “We received feedback at our children’s sleepovers that the mums would like to have a weekend away too, so we decided to organise a mum’s sleepover – and we have already started planning the next one.”
