Sir.–Having read last week that local firemen were to strike, I thought that your readers may be interested to know that exactly 100 years ago, in 1913, the Brook Street Fire Station was built at a cost of £1,235 and a motor fire engine was acquired for £865.
It was opened on November 6, 1913, by the mayor Frances Sollom.
This fire station was demolished after the West Ham one was built in the 1960s, and the old site is part of Churchill Way.
