MORE than 2,000 fish were rescued from the Basingstoke Canal yesterday.
A fisheries team from the Environment Agency saved the fish from the water, at West Byfleet, after an angler called the emergency incident hotline to report duck week covering the surface, causing low oxygen levels.
Fish species including roach, pike, tench, perch and bream were caught by electrofishing and transported in an oxygenated tank to a clear section of the canal where there were higher oxygen levels.
