AN UNEMPLOYED father assaulted a woman and threw an ironing board out into the street.

Leon Wayne pushed Aleysha Oliver, a friend of his partner Louise Embleton, so hard in the chest that she fell back and hit her head against a wall.

The 30-year-old, of St Nicholas’ Court, South Ham, admitted charges of criminal damage and assault by beating and was in the dock at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court for sentence.

Clare Hartman, prosecuting, said the attack took place in the evening of Saturday, May 18, at Miss Oliver’s address in Byrd Gardens, Brighton Hill.

The prosecutor said that earlier that day, Miss Embleton, with whom Wayne has a child, had told him that he could not see their child because he said he wanted to buy drugs.

Miss Hartman said Wayne then went to Miss Oliver’s house, where his partner was staying, and barged his way in when Miss Embleton opened the front door.

She said: “This defendant started to go through all the rooms, looking for other men at the address.

“He started shouting and smashing things up. He smashed a stair gate against the wall, and picked up an ironing board and threw it out of the property and into the street.”

He pushed over Miss Oliver when she came downstairs and then he left the house.

Phil McCann, defending, said Wayne had pleaded guilty to the offences, albeit on the first day of a trial.

Presiding magistrate Stephen Bibby said: “This was a very unpleasant incident and we are concerned by some of the comments from the probation service, in particular your own personal attitude in taking responsibility for your own behaviour.”

He gave Wayne a 12-month community order, with 150 hours of unpaid work and a supervision requirement. He ordered him to pay £115.72 in compensation for the criminal damage, and £100 to Miss Oliver for the assault.

He was also ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge and was made subject to a restraining order not to contact Miss Embleton.
