IN FRONT of dozens of Saturday shoppers, a brave Basingstoke mum swapped her blonde look for a bald one.

Tina Lewis, from Winklebury, a student dispensing optician, lost her locks in front of shoppers and colleagues at Boots in The Malls.

Tina underwent the hair-shedding feat to raise cash for charity Action for Blind People, which is the nominated charity of Boots Opticians stores in Hampshire.

The 51-year-old mum of two said she was a “nervous wreck” before putting herself in the hands of Toni and Guy hairdresser Leah Grist, 19.

Tina, who normally has her hair cut short, was lost for words when she saw her new look for the first time.

“I was shocked when I looked in the mirror,” she said. “At least it will grow back – I won’t be keeping keep it this short. I have promised my husband that.”

Despite not being a fan of her close cut, Tina said she hopes having her eye-catching new style will add to the £300 she has already raised for the organisation.

“It’s for a charity that’s well worth doing it for,” said Tina. “It is an unusual thing for a woman to do and I think the amount of sponsorship money reflects that.”
