THE Haymarket is delighted to help mark Shakespeare’s 450th birthday with the largest Shakespeare Schools Festival to date.

In Basingstoke, young people from eight schools in and around the local area will perform a condensed version of one of eight different Shakespeare plays, four on Monday, October 13 and four on Tuesday, October 14, both evenings starting at 7pm.

Across the whole of the UK, 35,000 young people will take to professional stages, with 130 theatres hosting a party to remember.

The Shakespeare Schools Festival is the UK’s largest youth drama festival and enables over 1,000 primary, secondary, and special schools to stage abridged Shakespeare productions in their local professional theatre.

Each night four schools will perform four different Shakespeare plays.

Pupils from Cranbourne Business and Enterprise College, Easthampsted Park Community School, Park View Junior School, The Wavell School, Aldworth School, Calthorpe Park School, Kempshott Junior School and Loddon School will perform shortened versions of a selection of Shakespeare plays including Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Tickets: £9.75; over 65s, under 16s and fulltime students pay £7.75 (include £1 booking fee)
