THERE was an unfortunate change of venue from a fairly spacious one, to a rather more cramped affair, but the line-up was too good to miss.

First up and from London was Triple Sundae starting things very nicely indeed with some classic pop-punk. It was not too heavy, but it was fast and catchy.

Triple Sundae

Basingstoke Gazette:

It was all perfect to get people to loosen up and get into their groove. And even better, my earlier apprehension about the venue passed because they had a very cool air con system in place.

Next up and all the way from Medway in Kent were Drop This, who were another fairly fast pop-punk band, but they certainly had a different character.

Drop This

Basingstoke Gazette:

Their music was delivered with a fair amount of jumping around and banter within the band and with the audience. I believe that some of these guys might have been in a rather impressive ska-punk band by the name of My Third Hand.

The midway slot was taken by Rocco Lampones, a Basingstoke/London band, who I have seen quite a few times this year already. It is fast, melodic hard-core punk, played really well and I think I was able to enjoy them even more because the first two bands had moved a lot of their gear and created a bit more space to breathe and move. It was another fantastic performance - they are reliable like that.

Main support was taken by Terrics who come from Reading. I had heard mixed reviews of this band, but never seen themselves before this night.

Terrics

Basingstoke Gazette:

I am sorry to report that I was not very impressed at all. They played well, you can't take that away from them, but it was just rather a bit dull and uninspiring and perhaps they should have gone on much earlier in the evening.

I knew I was on safe ground with the headline band though. Drones from Camberley are just back (and inspired) by a killer debut at Download Festival. They were, as ever, utterly brilliant. I have seen them a fair few times and know their material well and I have never known them to give a sub-par performance.

Drones

Basingstoke Gazette:

As well as the very fast contemporary punk music, their performance includes a lot of leaping in the air and plenty of movement. So good that even the loss of the PA for the last couple of songs did not dim the night.

Heads up to all the bands, the promoter and the venue for a great Saturday night out.
