THE fourth Basingstoke Festival begins tomorrow, June 19.

Hundreds of events will take place all over the borough until Sunday, July 12.

A giant disco turtle will lead the Carnival Parade for tomorrow's opening, followed by over 300 participants from local schools and groups. The party will carry on in front of the Willis Museum where there will be free entertainment until late.

Here’s a closer look at just some of the events coming up in week one:

BOAT - Eastrop Park, duration of festival

BOAT is a 10-minute audio journey created to be experienced in a boat at Eastrop Park. Download the MP3 to your portable device from explosionist.com, then visit Eastrop Park to hire a rowing boat or pedalo and take to the water.

Conceived by local theatre-maker Ben Mills, BOAT is part of Explosionist, a series of experiments to tell stories through the use of new technologies. You will require your own portable device and headphones.

DinoFest at the Willis Museum and Dino Hunter at Milestones Museum Part of DinoFest 2015

The Basingstoke Roll – Market Place, Friday, 1pm

Come and see local teams race around town to find clues and finish the treasure hunt first. Company teams will decorate their wheelchairs and some will be in fancy dress. While the teams are racing, children can take part in a mini treasure hunt and a wheelchair art activity.

As You Like It – The Proteans at the Walled Garden, Down Grange, June 19-21

In the forest of Arden, all kinds of romantic mayhem is let loose and hearts, minds, genders and opinions are swapped, changed and re-arranged in Shakespeare’s most romantic of romantic comedies.

Cliddesden Players’ It Runs in the Family – Cliddesden Village Hall, June 19-20

Hilarious farce set in a doctors’ common room where the peace is shattered by unexpected visitors and secrets from the past.

Migrating birds installation - Market Place, duration of festival

Local artists Louise Hight and Helen Dyne have created a special piece inspired by the transient nature of migrating birds and the metamorphosis of evolution.

World Party - Eastrop Park, June 20

Bringing the world with its cultures, food and communities to Basingstoke for a day including dance, music, craft and opportunities for adults and children to participate.

The Bounty Inn, June 21, 4pm – 7pm

Live music from traditional folk and roots music group Fairfolk and local band The Clearing.
