VISITORS to a Basingstoke museum will be able to admire a prehistoric creature which is normally based in a top London museum in June.

Prehistoric creatures are set to invade Basingstoke between June and September as part of a series of events across Hampshire.

DINOFEST2015 will see some of the world’s top dinosaur exhibits stomp into Hampshire and visitors to Milestones Museum, at Basingstoke Leisure Park, will be able to get up close and personal with dinosaurs from the Natural History Museum in London.

Other high profile loans from national collections, including fossils and works of art, will join existing exhibits at 10 venues across the county as part of DINOFEST2015.

Visitors will be able to discover some of the earliest dinosaur hunters, unearth finds in a fossil dig and marvel at some of the creatures living in our seas 190million years ago when the Dino Hunter exhibition opens at Milestones Museum between June 13 and September 27.

The exhibition includes objects which have been loaned from Oxford University Museum, Natural History Museum, Leeds Museum and many more.

Janet Owen, chief executive of Hampshire Cultural Trust, said: “Last year’s Big Theme was 1914 and saw a huge amount of activity that really immersed people of all ages in history.

“This time we are going even further back and bringing the excitement of dinosaurs to Hampshire through geology, archaeology, art, events and much more.”

She added: “With the imminent launch of the latest Jurassic Park film we’re anticipating a resurgence of interest in these incredible creatures and expecting to see thousands of people coming through our doors over the coming months.

“Wherever you are in Hampshire, the dinosaurs are closer than you think. Be part of the adventure.”
