COME closer and see the winning entries of the Wellcome Image Awards 2014, which are now on display at Basingstoke’s Willis Museum.

Experience a world of extraordinary scientific imagery created using cutting edge techniques which bring to life the vibrancy of a world of science normally hidden to the naked eye.

From an x-ray of a bat to a scanning electron micrograph of a kidney stone removed from Kevin Mackenzie (the creator of the image), to a head louse egg and the cross section of a flower bud, take a look at 18 stunning images which show some of the world's wonders in minute detail.

Wellcome Images is the world’s leading resource for medical imagery, with themes extending from medical and social history to contemporary healthcare, biomedical science and clinical medicine.

The 18 award winners have been selected from the thousands of images acquired by the Wellcome Library for their Wellcome Images collection since the 2012 Awards.

The awards celebrate the best in science imaging talent, from detailed microscopy and clinical photography to illustration.

The exhibition runs until November 15.

The Willis Museum is open from Tuesday – Friday from 10am until 5pm and on Saturdays from 10am until 4pm. Admission is free.
