LOCAL children are invited to sign up for this year’s free Summer Reading Challenge in Basingstoke Discovery Centre.
This year’s theme is Mystical Maze, and you can sign up any time from July 12. Every year, thousands of families all over the country take part in the event, which is run by the charity The Reading Agency.
The aim of the challenge is to get children, aged four to 11, to read at least six books from the library during the summer holidays.
In addition, BDC in Festival Place has some events planned in conjunction with the challenge.
Free Friday craft activities will take place including a chance to make a mythical board game, hobby-creature puppet, flying creature, pencil topper or mythical feet.
There will also be three storytelling parties featuring The Gruffalo, Hugless Douglas and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Find out more about creepy crawlies on Monday, August 4 plus there will be free Jonnie Rocket storytelling on August 23.
