CHILDREN in Need: Silchester church was full for the concert by Robin Scott, an accomplished international singer and musician, and we were able to raise almost £700 for Children in Need.

ORIENTEERING: A large crowd of people attended this course and occupied most of the parking spaces, and there were also many gazebos and stalls around the playing fields, all seemed to be having a good time.

FAREWELL: Sunday last saw two farewell occasions in Silchester, as the village prepared for the departure of Richard and Robina Rand.

Richard has been in the village for 48 years and in that time has held every office the village could offer, except for that of parish councillor!

Robina, however, was parish clerk for several years and on the Roman site panel. They will be sadly missed.

The church said farewell with a large congregation, some rousing hymns, speeches and presentations and then the village hall was filled with some 150 friends, who had snacks, drinks and celebrated Robina and Richard’s contribution to village life. Several presentations were also made.
