IT’S been a busy couple of months for Old Basing.

We celebrated our 92nd birthday on March 1 with guests from other local WIs – a glass of wine and a piece of cake helping things along!

Our speaker, the Rev Mrs Jill Bentall, gave us plenty to laugh about with a collection of items on ‘Growing Older (Dis)gracefully’.

Also in March, we had our most successful ever jumble sale with plenty of ‘punters’ coming through the door to pick up some really terrific bargains of all kinds, including the legendary WI cakes.

Our April meeting had an excellent speaker, Andy Phillips, who spoke about his passion – orchids.

He told us how not to kill them (which most of those present have done) and how to make them flower – more difficult.

He has threatened to come back in the future to conduct a surgery when we can bring along our victims.

Tomorrow we will hold another of our most enjoyable skittle and supper evenings at Loddon Vale.

To find out more about our speakers and events log on to hampshirewi.org.uk – click on Old Basing in the list of WIs in the left-hand column, where our web page will be found.

New members are always welcome, so why not come along and try us on the first Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm in the Parish Room adjacent to St Mary’s Church, Old Basing.
