CHINEHAM Village Club Fireworks Night is on Saturday. The entertainment will begin at 6.30pm. Tickets cost £8 (adult), £4 (children under-16 and OAPs) or £20 family ticket (two adults and two children) from the club if bought by tomorrow, or more on the day. The proceeds will go to Saxon Wood School.
CHINEHAM WI: Following its sixth birthday celebrations and a dinner to commemorate the centenary of the WI in the UK, the group’s meeting on Monday sees a graphologist visit to check out handwriting. New members are always welcome to join meetings at Christ Church, starting at 7.30pm.
MUSTARD Seed Relief Mission: Christ Church, Reading Road, is looking for volunteers to help fill shoeboxes between 2pm and 6pm on October 12. The church is planning to fill 300 boxes with donations received.
GREEN Week Activity in Chineham: This coming Sunday, from 10am to 1pm, Chineham Conservation volunteers, along with the Greening Chineham group, will work in Tollhouse Meadow stream clearing and litter picking. There will be pond dipping for children and a wildlife expert will be on hand to help identify the animals caught. Equipment provided. Further information available by calling 354840.
GREEN Week – activities in Chineham: On Sunday, from 1pm to 3pm, Christ Church is holding a Swap Shop event with games for children and a craft session. The award-winning documentary film Trashed with Jeremy Irons will be showing and you can drop in to catch a segment of this or stay for the whole session. The event is open to all residents.
NEIGHBOURHOOD Watch’s Annual Cycle Ride Treasure Hunt takes place this Sunday. The new 10-mile route is suitable for all ages and should take between 2.5 and 3.5 hours to complete. There will be no questions to answer along the way, but the route map booklets are numbered and cyclists will need to collect special codes from the marshals along the route. Back at the Scout Hut, random prize-winning number combinations will be on display and prizes can be claimed.
PETITION launched: A petition has been launched to try to persuade Hampshire County Council to reintroduce the bus lay-by outside Chineham Village Hall.
PLAY SCHEME: RCS Ltd is running a play scheme in Chineham from August 10 to August 14, from 10am to 11.15am, at Four Lanes Community Centre. It is aimed at children aged five to 11 years.
