BASINGSTOKE Town suffered another away day to forget, as they went down 4-1 at Chesham United, in the Southern League Premier Division.

The visitors made three changes to the side which lost 3-1 at home to Marlow on Tuesday night, with the return of Colm McAdden, Sam Smart and George Bennett, in place of Giordano Zabotti, Jordan Goater and Ben Wright.

The visitors had early chances with Bennett coming the closest as his shot went just over the bar.

The home side then grabbed the lead after 12 minutes, as Oran Swales with a volley from the edge of the area, found its way into the net via the crossbar.

Just eight minutes later and Chesham doubled their advantage after Jeff Louis’ cross was tapped home by Shane Bush.

Town then should have pulled a goal back, but unfortunately Callum Bunting’s header hit the bar and then Sam Argent with the rebound volleyed against the crossbar as well.

The Generals made the most of their let off, as they then added a third goal on 39 minutes thanks to Kieran Murphy after a goal mouth scramble.

The second half was much better for the visitors and Bennett became the third player to be denied by the crossbar.

On the 68 minute mark, Town pulled a goal back as Bennett’s free-kick was pushed out by the home goalkeeper, only as far as Bunting, who headed home.

However, just four minutes later, the home side added a fourth to their tally as Bush slotted in his second of the game and it was game over for Town.

Louis nearly added a fifth for the home side but McAdden denied him.

Town will hope to bounce back to winning ways on Tuesday night, when they entertain Stratford in their next Southern League game.
