BASINGSTOKE Town Ladies lost to a lone late strike at Larkhall Athletic in the Women's Premier League South West Division One.

The visitors had the first chance of the contest as after 10 minutes as Kelly Rutledge played Lindsey Beverley down the wing only for her shot to go into the side netting.

The home side then fired a free-kick wide and then hit the post after a goal mouth scramble.

Eight minutes into the second half, Town's Helen Ogle cut in from the left after beating the full back but her shot was saved.

On the hour mark, visiting goalkeeper Erin Davis-Donne then saved a long range effort with her feet and also a one-on-one.

The goalie then tipped another effort over the bar, before Larkhall scored the winner three minutes from time.

Town looked for an equaliser and Ogle was denied one-on-one in the final minute.

Town Ladies Manager Rob Quilter said: "It was a disappointing game, we started well but then struggled to threaten them for long periods. The girls battled bravely but couldn't quite hold out."

The team's next game is away to Southampton Saints on Thursday evening.
