BASINGSTOKE Town Ladies suffered heartbreak in the final five minutes against Southern League Premier Division leaders Woodley United at Winklebury on Sunday.

Mid-table Town were far from overawed by their opponents, matching them in the first half, with Justine Mosley and Sam Mosley both going close for the home team.

Lindsey Beverley went closest to breaking the deadlock for Town after the break, her shot being well saved, but Woodley scored the winning goal with five minutes remaining, Nicola Froud’s deflected shot beating home goalkeeper Erin Davis.

Basingstoke will have the chance to get instant revenge on Sunday, when the sides meet at Winklebury again, this time in the League Cup.

The ladies reserve team claimed a 3-0 victory over Horndean Ladies, Becky Lee, Katie Hempton and Charlotte May getting the goals. They travel to Widbrook United Reserves on Sunday.
