SILCHESTER’S Hannah Smith rounded off a great week at the Tennis Europe Nike Junior International event held in Halton, winning both the doubles and singles titles.

The international event brought together 32 of the top 12 and under tennis players from across Europe.

In the singles event, Smith had a battle in her first round match before she defeated Hanne Vandewinkel from Belgium in three sets.

Her second round game proved a lot easier as she beat Sweden’s Johanna Bernhold 6-2, 6-1.

This set-up an all British third round clash against Eva Shaw with Smith coming out on top recording another straight sets victory 6-2, 6-2.

This moved the Silchester player into the semi-finals against, Sofia Costoulas from Belgium. In a very closely contested match Smith won the first set 7-5 and came from 5-1 down in the second set to claim her spot in the final winning 7-5, 7-5.

The final was against Bulgarian Stela Peeva, who came into the match with a very impressive record of being undefeated undefeated in her last 25 European matches.

Smith took the first set 6-4, but lost her serve twice in the second set to trail 5-1.

The Silchester player managed to pull it back to 5-4, before Peeva won the next game to take the second set 6-4.

Smith came out in the third set with determination breaking the Bulgarian’s serve in the first game and then never looked back, taking the third set 6-1 to win the Tennis Europe title.

Earlier in the week, Smith teamed up with Andrea Pineada and they claimed their third European doubles title this year, defeating Jaquelyn Ogunwale and Vandewinkel 6-4, 6-2 in the final.
