CHINEHAM Rugby Club will be holding their annual Memorial game to celebrate the life of former player John Williams at May’s Bounty on Sunday (3pm).

To celebrate the fifth year of the match between current and ex-players, Chineham have also invited along players from Aldermaston RFC who were Chineham’s first opponents in 1997 when the club was founded.

Club President Howard Pickett said: “We have always enjoyed a good relationship with Aldermaston Rugby Club and so I was really pleased to hear that they have accepted the invitation to join us for what is always a memorial occasion celebrating John’s life and contribution to our club.”

This year the event is organised by club stalwart Jack Webster and the club have organised a family fun day to mark the occasion.

Webster said: “A lot of thought and effort has been put into planning the fifth anniversary, as a club that prides itself on been family focus, we decided to make the day into something for the whole family and community.”

The event starts at 12.30 pm with a family touch rugby tournament from aged six upwards.

There will also be bouncy castles, candy floss making machine, ice van, stalls, games and barbecue.

They hope that the club and the wider community gets behind the event and show there support by coming along.
