CHINEHAM put up a great display at Hampshire One league leaders Farnborough losing 24-7, writes DANIEL WALLER.
They were determined to continue the good work shown under coach Tony Burns.
The visitors started well, Farnborough’s strong runners being well suppressed by Chinehams ferocious defence, Phil Circou, Joe Waller and Matt Lingham putting in some big hits.
Farnborough eventually managed to breach the Chineham wall however their defensive efforts ensured a hard kick from out wide which was missed.
This shocked Chineham into the next gear, a combination of hard running and some intelligent kicking saw Chineham spend the next 20 minutes or so camped in the Farnborough half, this resulted in John Lingham crossing for his second try in as many weeks. Douglas Ireland took the extras on offer.
Farnborough were ruing ill discipline when they were reduced to 13 men and Chineham continued to pile on the pressure and were unlucky not to add to the scoreline.
Farnborough then against the run of play managed to crash over through their big men in the corner, again the conversion was missed.
In the second half Chineham again fought valiantly and tackled like demons and Farnborough had to work very hard for their tries.
Chineham can be proud of their efforts with opponents and spectators alike commenting on how far the Lions have progressed.
Man of the Match went to Joe Waller for leading the line in defence all game and showing a complete disregard for his personal safety in the tackle.
Other honourable mentions go to Jack Martin for being a nuisance round the park and Adam Lincoln for not only stepping in at scrum half but being very good at it.
Chineham next game is on March 3 away to Locksheath Pumas.
