BASINGSTOKE Wolverines had a successful time at the ICC British Open at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham and brings together the very best in UK Cheer.

Mystique (youth level one small) were the first compete, in only the second competition hit a clean performance, with zero deductions and finished fifth out of 13 squads.

Prodigy (youth level two small) were the next in action and also finished fifth out of seven.

The following day, the Queens (senior level two small) pulled out one of the best routines of the weekend, which saw them finish third out of 15 squads and won them a bid entry into the ICC Battle of the Champions next year.

This competition is invite only bringing the best of the best the country has to offer to compete against each other.

The Storm (senior level one small) were next in action in a very tough division and finished in seventh place out of nine teams.

Finally, it was the turn of Rogue (senior coed level three) who due to an injury the week before the event, had to have two new members learn the entire routine in one session.

They pulled off a professional performance finishing fourth out of sixth and only 0.3 points behind third and winning a bid entry into the ICC Battle of the Champions next year.

Kayleigh Fennell, Head Coach at Basingstoke Wolverines said: “I am so proud of every athlete that stepped onto that mat this weekend.

“We continue to showcase the talent Basingstoke and surrounding areas has to offer at the most competitive competitions this country has.

She added: “Seeing the athletes gain new skills and confidence weekly is an absolute pleasure for me to see as a coach and I cannot wait to see what the future holds.”

The programme and squads are getting stronger and larger with new athletes signing up for our development squad Shadowcats which enables athletes to gain and learn new skills and gain confidence before deciding whether to join a competitive squad.

The club trains five times a week at Cranbourne Business and Enterprise College from Monday to Friday.
