TEENAGE Basingstoke racer Dean Tompkins collected two top 10 finishes in the final two round of the 2017 Pickup Truck Racing Championship around the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit.

The 19-year-old qualified his pickup 12th on the grid for the first of the two races and by lap three had gained a place as he passed Mark Willis.

Entering Druids on lap six Tompkins forced his way through on the inside of Christopher Land forcing him wide, which also allowed Willis through.

Tompkins back in 11th spot chased down Michael Smith who he caught and passed on the penultimate lap.

So the teenager crossed the line in 10th after 18 laps.

The second race of the day saw him start from 13th place. Again he held position off the line and then made a place up on lap two as he passed the recovering David O Regan.

Another place was made up on lap three as Geoff Dixon rejoined the track.

Lap six saw O Regan making his way back up through the field after an earlier off pass Tompkins relegating him back, but the Basingstoke driver fought back to finish tenth.

The two top 10 finishes saw him finish the 2017 season in eighth place overall in the championship standings.
