BASINGSTOKE and Deane has six finalists on the shortlist for the 2017 Energise Me Awards which are held this evening at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton.

Over 220 nominations across 11 categories this year were received and narrowed down to the county finalists.

Guest speaker on the evening is Ben Smith, the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Helen Rollason Award 2016 winner.

The Energise Me Awards, is the only county-wide event to publicly reward and recognise the commitment, performance and excellence across all sports.

The Basingstoke finalists are in the following categories and battling it out for the Club of the Year award will see the Chineham Park Running Club and Basingstoke Hockey Club go head-to-head with South Hants from Portsmouth.

Basingstoke Bison head coach Doug Sheppard is up for the Coach of the Year trophy which is up against sailing coach Mark Rushall and swimming guru Kim Hill.

The Herd are also in the running for Team of Year award against Hayling Golf Club and Aldershot Ski Race Club (juniors).

Rebecca Barker of Basingstoke Bluefins is in the final three of the Volunteer of the Year against Havant’s Lily Moore and Winchester’s Ann Stanhope.

Anne Flitcroft of Basingstoke and Mid Hants is up for the Official of the Year award, along with Eastleigh’s Colin Miles and Lia Waine from the New Forest.
