NEW signing Ross Cook scored twice, but it was all in vain as Overton United lost 3-2 to visiting Infinity in the Hampshire Premier League.

Having only lost 1-0 to leaders Bush Hill the previous Wednesday, Overton boss Gregor Restell had high hopes for this side on Saturday.

However, they soon found themselves a goal down from a free kick as an Infinity player bent the ball around the wall.

The home side hit back to level, as Alex Jupp fed Cook and he rounded the goalkeeper to score.

The goal scorer was then felled in the box. The striker got up and took the penalty and only a superb save denied him.

The visitors made the most of this, as they scored a second to lead 2-1 at the break.

After the interval, a lovely through ball from Nathan Rae sent Cook away and he lobbed the goalkeeper to level things again.

After this, Johnie Gurney, Cook and sub Siyani Thomas all had chances for Overton, but a deflected effort 10 minutes from time won the game for the visitors.

After the match, Restell said: "I am bitterly disappointed, this has to be one of the toughest results to take. We just have to carry on and try and get back to winning ways."

Next for Overton on Saturday is a visit from QK Southampton, who they beat earlier in the season.

Then on Wednesday night (7.30pm) under their new floodlights Overton take on Clanfield.
