HOOK and Newnham Basics’ impressive five game winning streak came to an abrupt end at May’s Bounty last weekend.

Their batting failed to fire and were bowled out for 53 in an eight wicket loss against Basingstoke and North Hants.

The side have no time to lick their wounds, as they have another big game this weekend, when leaders Calmore Sports are in town.

They also lost last weekend as their lead at the summit was slashed to five points.

So victory for Hook could well and truly, once again throw wide open the race for the title and the sole promotion place to the Premier Division.

On the other hand defeat would leave them with a lot of work to do in the rest of the season.

Saturday’s game is also a revenge mission for Hook as they lost at Calmore Sports by 45 runs.

The visitors looked in good shape at the half way stage of the match after Anik Divecha took 5-35 as Calmore were bowled out for 189.

However, this proved to be enough as Kieran Thomson (38) top scored in Hook’s losing total of 144.

Hook skipper Ben Thane said: “Saturday’s game against Basingstoke was a bad day at the office for us. They bowled really well and deserved the win. It is now imperative we bounce back this weekend and being at home we always want to win.”

It is a double header of action at the King George V Playing Fields this weekend, as on Sunday, Division Two leaders Totton and Eling are the visitors.

This is for a T20 Cup second round tie, with Hook, beaten finalist in the competition in its first season, hoping to take another step toward another appearance in the final at the Ageas Bowl.
