A BUMPER crowd despite the rain turned up to enjoy the clash between Shaun Udal All Stars and Hartley Wintney, with charity ending up the big winner on the day.

The match at the picturesque village ground at Hartley Wintney, raised over £15,000, which will be shared between Dove House School Academy and the Brain Tumour Charity.

Former England and Hampshire star Shaun Udal was delighted with the day and said: “Everything was brilliant. It was great to see so many there despite the weather and the marquee was packed.”

Even if there was rain around on the afternoon, they still managed to get in a 12 over match.

In difficult conditions the All Stars including Matthew Hoggard, Chris Tremlett, Jimmy Adams, Ryan Stevenson and Michael Brown scored 107-7, with Hampshire’s Ian Holland top scoring with 50.

To make it more of a match their score was increased to 160, which saw the game finish in a last ball tie as Hartley's Henry Collier hit a half century for the home side in a very entertaining game.

Udal added: “It was great to get some cricket in and I am sure everyone enjoyed the game. If there is not a Hampshire benefit game next year, I would love to do it again as it is just a great day for the club. I would like to say a huge thank-you to the Hartley Wintney club and also all the players, helpers and to everyone who supported this event.”

For the second week running, Hartley’s promotion push in the Southern League Division Two was put on hold, as their game at Paultons was a victim of the rain.

This Saturday they travel to Hambledon, having beaten them by four wickets earlier in the season at home.

In that game, visiting Hambledon scored 225-7 as Scott Baldwin helped himself to 4-25.

The Hartley reply was built around a great 68 from opener Will Kerr, well supported by Baldwin (47) and Danny Flanders (32) as they reached 228-6.

Hartley's second team’s home game against South Wilts III lasted just 12.3 overs.

At this point the visitors having reached 35-1 and Thomas Millward had taken 1-13.

Hartley’s third team game was also wiped out due to the heavy rain.

This also proved to be the case across the whole of the Hampshire League programme which was due to be played on Saturday.
